Symantec smells a RAT attack

Editorial Type: News     Date: 01-2016    Views: 1046

Symantec has identified a new attack campaign targeting small businesses in the UK, carried out via employees responsible for accounts and fund transfers, in order to steal money from those organisations that are affected

"Financially motivated attackers are sending social engineering emails to SMBs in the UK and US, to deliver Backdoor.Breut and Trojan.Nancrat," warned the Symantec Security Response team. "The attackers use social engineering techniques and publicly available Remote Access Trojans (RATs) to gain access to victims' computers and transfer money to their accounts."

Through these infections, the attackers can access the webcam and microphone, log keystrokes, and steal files and passwords, the company added.
