Legal firm reduces data centre footprint by 70%

Nimble Storage has been selected by UK law firm Travers Smith to increase performance and reliability of its high volume workloads across its IT infrastructure. The company needed a converged storage solution that could seamlessly scale with the business as data demands increased. Using the Nimble Adaptive Flash platform, Travers Smith will realise increased performance and capacity, as well as a 70% reduction of its data centre footprint.

Travers Smith is one of the UK’s leading corporate, financial and commercial law firms, employing over 300 lawyers. As part of a review of its current IT infrastructure, the company realised it could improve its storage environment. Following an audit of flash-only arrays and hybrid arrays, the Nimble Storage CS300 Series array was selected as a recognised market leader.

“After conducting a competitive analysis, it was clear that Nimble could provide the reliability, performance and scalability we required to meet our business needs,” commented Derek Fox, IT Manager at Travers Smith. “Nimble and its partner NG-IT have worked hard to provide a tailored commercial and technical solution to support our specific business needs. We’re expecting performance to become much more consistent and storage a lot easier to manage, resulting in more efficient work processes and improved staff productivity.”

Travers Smith was previously managing a complicated storage environment architected with various SSDs, SAS drives and SATA drives across a series of dedicated storage silos for high performance or high capacity workloads. With Nimble, it will be able to consolidate its mixed workloads onto a single, converged storage platform, saving a significant amount of space. The original 20U of rack space it was using, is now down to 6U. In addition to the data centre reduction, the company will experience energy and power cost savings.

Graham Holt, at Nimble Storage added, “Our aim is help companies like Travers Smith find a converged storage platform that will deliver the capacity and performance needs they require as their business grows. In the fast-paced law environment, having quick access to data is crucial. We’re committed to helping companies reduce their data centre footprint and achieve cost-savings whilst not compromising on performance and capacity.”
