After a long silence there is mounting evidence that ITSM is creeping back onto the agenda. Most recently, Logicalis has announced the launch of IT Custodian which they describe a turnkey ITSM solution developed jointly between Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Logicalis’ Service Management Consulting (SMC) business.

Commenting Martyn Birchall a Director at Logicalis said, “Service Management is more than capable of achieving transformational performance… but traditional approaches to extending the service desk and embracing ITSM can be difficult to budget and take many months to implement… This is far from ideal at a time when IT departments urgently seek to regain control over IT services and become the internal service provider to the business.”

According to recent Logicalis research concerning the effects of shadow IT, 31 per cent of CIOs globally are now routinely side-lined when it comes to making IT purchasing decisions. IT Custodian comprehensively addresses these and other governance issues.

Continuing this theme, AXELOS has been briefing on a new qualification for what they refer to as the world’s most widely adopted service management framework, ITIL. It was first introduced by the UK Government in 1989 and is now used in over 150 countries. It is estimated that more than a quarter of a million ITIL certifications are awarded around the world each year.

The new qualification - ITIL Practitioner - will equip ITSM professionals with skills to successfully adopt and adapt ITIL to improve their service management capabilities, including organisational change management, communication, metrics and measurement, all of course in line with business goals. It will offer the next step after ITIL Foundation for professionals who have already learned the basics of ITSM and the business value of well-designed and delivered services. They claim that ITIL Practitioner is a fundamental enabler for applying valuable specialist skills acquired in the ITIL Intermediate Lifecycle and Capabilities qualifications.

AXELOS CEO Abid Ismail said that, “The development of ITIL Practitioner is a direct response to the feedback we have received from ITSM professionals from around the world, who told us they wanted additional, practical elements to complement the existing ITIL guidance.”

Technology platform company Aryaka has launched their first SD-WAN with built-in WAN optimisation and cloud acceleration. It offer the benefits of SD-WAN combined with significantly reduced latency, jitter and packet loss and it can be deployed in less than 48 hours as opposed to MPLS which they say can take up to 120 days. It also promises cost savings of up 56 per cent when compared to MPLS and other legacy WAN solutions. The solution can simplify branch level operations by offering WAN optimisation, cloud and VPN connectivity, routing, firewall, QoS and application level control and monitoring from a single vendor.

Talari who claim they are the market share leader of Software Defined WAN (SD-WAN) solutions announced today the availability of Talari Adaptive Private Networking (APN) 5.0 operating software and the Talari Aware 2.0 centralised management and orchestration system. These two releases extend their SD-WAN solution by delivering enhanced routing capabilities, improved integration with IPsec, cloud-based centralised SD-WAN management, cost-effective redundancy and multi-tenant capabilities.

Commenting on the release, Donna Johnson, Talari Senior Director of Products said, “Companies are beginning wide-scale deployment of SD-WAN solutions to take advantage of low-cost broadband to support real-time application and bandwidth demand but growth has been held back by the difficulty of deploying SD-WAN… as well as perceived security issues with using broadband for sensitive data. Our introduction of Talari APN 5.0 and Talari Aware 2.0 delivers an easy and flexible way to deploy a SD-WAN solution… allowing customers to expand their adoption of emerging SD-WAN and cloud technologies at their own pace…”
