Avere introduces new entry-level model to FXT 5000 series product line

The FXT 5200 Edge Filer creates Cloud Gateway Into Object Storage, Supports Remote Office Collaboration Through WAN Caching for centralised data access

Avere Systems has introduced the FXT 5200 Edge filer to its 5000 series product line. The FXT 5200 is an entry-level solution that cost-effectively delivers the same software functionality support as the existing 5000 series to customers running lower performance workloads. Providing 50 percent more storage capacity in half the space of the preceding model, the new 1U rack-mount filer delivers significantly lower TCO and a smaller data center footprint, making it possible for more businesses to make the move to the cloud with ease.

This latest innovation from Avere rounds out the FXT 5000 Edge filer series, which includes the 5400 and 5600 models announced earlier this year, and provides customers across industries like media and entertainment, financial services and life sciences with the most powerful hybrid cloud storage product on the market today.

Key features of the FXT 5200 Edge filer include:
• Increased Capacity and Higher Density. The FXT 5200 model includes 7.2TB SAS HDD per node, delivering 50 percent more capacity than the existing 3200 model, and occupies half the space - only one rack unit (RU) per node - addressing the growing pain point of datacenter sprawl and lowering total cost of ownership.
• File System for Public and Private Object Storage. The new model creates a cloud storage gateway, providing NAS functionality in front of object storage and allowing users to access data using standard protocols.
• WAN Caching for Remote Offices. The FXT 5200 enables improved remote office collaboration by offering WAN caching to create centralised data access to users in satellite offices.

“Organisations are eager to move to the cloud to reap its economic and technical advantages, and the FXT 5200 model empowers them to do that by delivering object storage and allowing them to access it in traditional ways,” said Jeff Tabor, Senior Director of Product Management and Marketing at Avere Systems. “This entry-level model is crucial to many customers looking to achieve the same functionality as Avere’s existing 5000 series products at a lower cost for lower performance applications. The addition of the FXT 5200 completes the newest generation of the Avere Edge filer product line, which delivers performance and scalability at all levels.”

Pricing for the FXT 5200 model starts at $75,500. For more details, visit here.
