IP EXPO Manchester, taking place 18-19 May at Manchester Central, is part of Europe’s number one enterprise IT event series, including IP EXPO Europe in London and IP EXPO Nordic in Sweden

Now in its second year, the event is designed to educate and inform professionals across the IT spectrum, covering everything required to power a digital enterprise and support digital transformation.

IP EXPO Manchester’s core focus for 2016 will be emerging business technologies and how such technologies are supporting business transformations for digital enterprise. The 2016 event will encompass six events under one roof for the first time, covering all key aspects of enterprise technology: Cloud and Infrastructure, Cyber Security, Data Centre, DevOps, Data Analytics and Unified Communications.

Over 70 specialist technology providers will showcase the latest in enterprise IT technologies across the two day event, with an anticipated 4,000 attendees expected to come through the doors.

In addition to unveiling the latest developments in enterprise IT, the event will also showcase brand new exclusive content and a dedicated programme of free-to-attend seminars. Visitors will hear from leading industry voices from across the IT spectrum in a series of speeches and panel discussions on the wider issues in IT.

The opening keynote will be given by Dame Stella Rimington, former director general for MI5. Recognised worldwide as the basis for the character ‘M’ in the James Bond film series, Dame Stella was the first woman to take the post of MI5 director general and the first to be publicly named by MI5. Appointed in 1992, Dame Stella worked across all the security service’s main fields – counter-subversion, counter-espionage and counter-terrorism – becoming director of all three branches successively. She was made a Dame Commander of the Bath in 1996 following her retirement from MI5 and went on to hold positions including non--executive director at Marks & Spencer and chairman of the Institute of Cancer Research.

With impending legislation like the Investigatory Powers Bill continuing to hit the news, plus challenges in the global technology industry – such as Apple’s recent digital privacy battle with the FBI – and political concerns – such as the UK’s proposed exit from the EU – security is once again at the top of the agenda for businesses. Dame Stella’s opening keynote at this year’s IP EXPO Manchester is a rare opportunity to hear from a true pioneer in the world of secret service.

Other speakers of note will include James Akrigg, head of technology for partners at Microsoft, who will be discussing modern working and the future of the workplace. Amazon Web Services technical evangelist Ian Massingham will talk about the role the cloud plays in digital transformation and will also sit on a panel which looks at the future of the cloud. Leading UK tech personality Dr Sue Black will be discussing her role in the campaign to save Bletchley Park.

In addition to the extensive free seminar programme, visitors can also take part in live hack demonstrations at the Cyber Hack, a live open-source security lab located at the heart of the event. For those looking for a more personalised approach, a Tech Clinic will be held for all registered attendees, offering free personalised consultancy. Additionally, selected stands will be offering free drinks and snacks during day one.
