Cyber security skills gap

Editorial Type: News     Date: 05-2014    Views: 2168

A government report on cyber security skills has won vital backing

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, has welcomed the recommendations that have been laid out in the government's latest report - 'Cyber Security Skills; Business Perspectives and Government's next steps' - aimed at establishing greater cyber security skills

The government is working with both the institute and the IET to commit engineers and IT professionals registered with them to demonstrate awareness of information security, building on the forthcoming requirement for all computing-related degrees accredited by the IET and BCS to include information on security learning outcomes.

Adam Thilthorpe, director of professionalism at the institute, explained: "This is a vital area for the IT profession to embrace. As an institute, we are already heavily involved in tackling the skills gap in this field; from developing the profession through to ensuring that standards are met."
