Tier-3 has become one of the first adopters of the new UK Cyber Essentials standard, which has been produced by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in conjunction with GCHQ and industry. The scheme aims to provide a core baseline of cyber security assurance across all businesses and has an associated assurance and assessment framework. It was launched in London on June 5th by Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Minister of State for Universities and Science. The standard covers five primary areas of cyber security and it is hoped that all businesses will embrace it as a core part of their security approach. The areas addressed are: firewalls and Internet gateways, security configuration, user access controls, malware and patch management. Adrian Bishop, Tier-3’s Head of Engineering stated: “As a company working in sensitive sectors our internal security controls are comprehensive, but we have the knowledge, skills and technology to enable this – many businesses struggle to respond to the cyber security threat landscape and to protect their data.†Mairead Keaney, Head of EMEA added: “As a part of the UK government supply chain this standard is something that will be adopted across all of industry. Being one of the first companies to adopt Cyber Essentials is in keeping with our position at the forefront of the cyber security market.†| |||
