London Borough of Camden's BYOD usage increases by 240 percent in two years

Following the recent Freedom of Information Act (FOI) request submitted by government think tank Parliament Street into the London Borough of Camden, it has been revealed that the councils BYOD usage has soared 240 per cent in the last two years.

London Borough of Camden has been using enterprise file sharing provider Accellion's BYOD solution since 2012. Paul Steiner, EMEA MD at Accellion has made the following comments:

“BYOD can be a beautiful thing when successfully executed. Seemingly endless mobile work opportunities are created and productivity goes up, while IT costs go down. However, BYOD poses a number of security concerns, if left unmanaged, which can impact your network availability and cause data loss.

The London Borough of Camden wanted to implement mobile policies but had very strict regulations as a government agency.

LBoC’s aim was to deploy a private-cloud solution to make its BYOD strategy compliant with the Council requirement that no data is stored on public cloud servers. With Accellion’s help, employees were able to collaborate on important documents via iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, whenever and wherever they needed. Accellion’s solution also met the government’s internal data access policies and provided secure access to SharePoint content.”
