Pure Storage has acquired over 100 storage and related technology patents from IBM, with the companies signing a patent cross-license agreement

"This transaction significantly increases the number of Pure Storage's patents, creating a more robust and strategic patent portfolio that will allow our customers to benefit even more from our focus on advancing storage innovation," said Joe FitzGerald, vp, Legal for Pure Storage.

"This agreement with Pure Storage demonstrates the value of IBM's patented inventions and our dedication to encouraging innovation by licensing access to our extensive patent portfolio," said Dr. William LaFontaine, GM Intellectual Property, for IBM.

Pure CEO Scott Dietzen commented: "Going forward, our hope is that this significant expansion of our patent portfolio will serve as a clear warning that Pure is serious about defending our ability to disrupt a storage marketplace that is deeply in need of innovation, and moreover, that Pure is in this for the long haul."
