Fujitsu stretch tape even further

Petabyte-scale ETERNUS LT260 Tape Library combines performance and exceptionally high data capacity

Fujitsu has introduced a new Petabyte-scale expandable edition of its ETERNUS LT tape library, ideally suited to both short-term back-up plus longer-term archiving deployments. As the new global flagship of FUJITSU Storage ETERNUS LT tape library offerings for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the new LT260 is designed to meet their demanding needs.

With tape still providing the industry's best economics for long-term data retention and archiving, Fujitsu's new ETERNUS LT260 tape library is designed to provide additional backup and archiving headroom for organisations using LTO tape-based automation to retain their information.

The ETERNUS LT260 features a scale-out design, which means that with the addition of a second, optional tape module, the system's capacity is immediately doubled from 80 to 160 slots. As the latest LTO-6 tape cartridges are able to hold 6.25TB of compressed data, the fully loaded new mid-range Fujitsu ETERNUS tape library can scale all the way to a maximum compressed data capacity of 1 Petabyte, or 400TB uncompressed. Backwards compatibility is also standard, with the ETERNUS LT260 working with all supported generations of LTO.

As with all ETERNUS LT tape libraries, the new ETERNUS LT260 is equipped with tools that reduce the overheads of managing large data archives, such as automated, consolidated and simplified data protection processes, plus archive capabilities that reduce human intervention and error. There is also no need to dive deep into the archives to administer the libraries, since remote management and diagnostic tools are a standard feature.
