According to recent reports, Morgan Stanley has joined the growing list of worldwide firms that are facing cyber security issues The company disclosed that information relating to almost 10%, or 350,000, of its wealth management clients was stolen by one of its employees, with some of it posted online. Espion says that, while the frequency of cyber incidents is on the rise, hackers trying to gain access to critical information are not always to blame, with insider involvement still a significant problem. "Insider abuse is more difficult to detect, as the perpetrators often have legitimate access to sensitive data and removing it may go completely unnoticed," warned Espion senior consultant, John Hetherton. "Whether opportunistic or disgruntled with their employers, the threat from the inside becomes more serious, as these employees have access to the company's best kept secrets and insider knowledge of security weaknesses." Espion offers a 12-point plan to help organisations respond to a range of potential threats. | |||
