New malware unlocks corporate defences for hackers

Dell SecureWorks' Counter Threat Unit (CTU) researchers have discovered malware that allows hackers to authenticate as any corporate user within an organisation, giving the threat actors unfettered access to a target organisation's computer systems

Essentially, the malware accomplishes this by bypassing authentication on Active Directory (AD) systems. Threat actors can use a password of their choosing to authenticate as any corporate user. Dell SecureWorks gave the malware the name 'Skeleton Key'.
