Direction of travel

Welcome to a new year with Network Computing - and perhaps a new network…

What are your IT plans for 2015? Have you shared them with anyone else, and do you know for certain that they align with the direction of travel of the business that pays for it all? If not then grab a coffee, reflect hard, and put things right as quickly as possible.

I actually find it hard to express how excited I am by the diversity and richness of the IT and networking solutions currently hitting the market and the potential they offer, and with rare exception I heartily congratulate those that bring us such possibilities.

At one level this makes your work easier through increased choice, but at another, more realistic level it challenges you in new and exciting ways. So often the choice for the IT and networking professional is what measures, functions and features to leave out because you simply cannot include (or afford) everything.

In coming editions of Network Computing we will try to make you aware of the choices available, their deployment and their justification. Two areas of particular interest to me will be SDN and IoT because, in different and equally exciting ways, they will both move networks on, increase capability and generate the next generation of networking professional. Have you picked up the challenge? Will you?
