• 2014 was a year of large-scale attacks with significant impact and losses – starting out with the Target data breach and thenfinishing with the Sony hack
• The end of 2014 saw ransomware return with a vengeance, unleashing new, more refined and destructive attacks that reversed a year-long trend of decline that began in the second half of 2013
• The problems of banking malware migrating to Android continued to increase significantly, with a four-fold increase in banking and financial-related malware on Android in 2014.

By the end of 2014, Trend Micro researchers catalogued 4.26 million pieces of malware cumulatively affecting Android.
