Widespread data concerns

Editorial Type: News     Date: 03-2015    Views: 1243

As data issues around loss, theft or surveillance continue to hit the headlines, data privacy now represents a significant concern

Surveying seven thousand people across Europe, Symantec’s ‘2015 State of Privacy Report’ shows that 49% of UK consumers are worried their data is not safe, with 59% stating they have experienced a data protection issue in the past. Symantec suggests that consumer reluctance to share personal information will grow and begin to change online behaviour.

Ilias Chantzos, senior director, Symantec Government Affairs EMEA, Symantec, states: “Businesses need to be more transparent with customers on how they are keeping data secure. Security needs to be embedded into a company’s value chain, but it should also be viewed internally as a customer-winning requirement and not just a cost.”
