With product announcements ranging from the trivial to the bizarre, the Editor distils the essence of those that are of interest to the Networking community.

When it comes to meeting the demands of your business and security, the inclusive and uncompromised mantra of everything being easy and secure must become your minimum expectation of suppliers and vendors. With enabling and securing real-time communications in mind, Sonus Networks has been talking about new software updates to the Sonus SBC 1000 and SBC 2000 session border controllers. The changes deliver key Skype for Business functionality as well as strategic enhancements devoted to simplifying use, improving call support and bolstering security during real time IP communications. Sonus focus on helping enterprises optimise Microsoft Skype for Business enterprise voice deployments by securing Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking services at the network border. This creates a more seamless flow of real time communications.

Making comparisons between vendors can be pointless unless it is firmly underwritten by clear, objective and independent analysis. Ruckus Wireless has decided to take on the challenge by claiming that its ZoneFlex smart Wi-Fi technology outperformed Aerohive, Aruba,Cisco, Cisco/Meraki, HP, Ubiquiti and Xirrus during exhaustive head-to-head enterprise performance and capacity testing of 802.11ac and 802.11n indoor access points. The tests were conducted by the Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNet). Established in 1991 CARNet operates under the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport, working in the fields of information and communication technologies and their application in education, from network and Internet infrastructure and e-services, to security and user support.

Using industry standard test tools, access points in the tests were stressed using progressively demanding scenarios based on 12, 23, 36 and 60 clients: using an increasing number of clients for each test allowed measurement of aggregate Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) throughput."

Nineteen different Wi-Fi access points from the world's leading suppliers were tested at the CARNet headquarters in Zagreb and no vendor was allowed to pay for, subsidise or influence the testing, but each company was permitted to send an engineer to the test site. The results of the CARNet testing showed that Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi APs consistently delivered the highest levels of performance in five different real-world test scenarios.

SUSE< has been discussing the forthcoming availability of its Linux Enterprise Server for SAP applications based on SUSE Linux Enterprise 12. They claim that it offers a reliable, scalable and secure platform for efficiently deploying and managing highly available enterprise-class IT services in physical, virtual, or cloud infrastructure. New features such as full operating system rollback, live kernel patching and installation automation help to simplify deployment and can increase uptime of mission-critical SAP solution-based workloads on Linux. As a result, customers can save time and resources and experience improved performance and reliability.

It can be too easy to subjugate real-time wire data analytics to the end of the spending and resource queue. However, when the 'wires' go off-premise everything can be become more of a challenge. Leader in this sector ExtraHop claims that it is changing the cloud monitoring Game with its new 10 Gbps virtual appliance. They claim that the EH6100v is the first virtual appliance to deliver visibility into cloud and virtual environments at data centre scale.

Commenting, Kurtis Lindemann Executive Vice President of RoundTower Technologies, a data centre infrastructure and information technology consulting company said, "Our enterprise customers are increasingly moving towards virtual and cloud environments, but monitoring workloads in these environments has proven to be a real challenge. The ability to monitor and manage virtualised networks and cloud workloads is mission-critical to ensuring that applications perform as expected for the business. ExtraHop not only provides this crucial visibility, it is the only platform that can do it in real time and at scale."

Keen to be noticed, Nexthink has also announced a first: the any device end-user IT analytics platform. Focused on IT Operations Analytics (ITOA) and end-user analytics, the launch of Nexthink V5.3 expands enterprise IT visibility to include Mac and mobile device platforms including BYOD. With the addition of data from Mac, mobile and BYOD, Nexthink claims it is the first any device end-user IT analytics platform. According to Gartner, "By 2018, 50 per cent of employees will be accessing enterprise data from devices for which there is currently no solution offering enterprise management and visibility."
