Success at InfoSec

Editorial Type: Events     Date: 07-2015    Views: 5068

Infosec 2015 bustled and thrived for three days in June at its new London base OF Olympia. Computing Security was there to catch all the action.

New location it might have been – and less easily accessible for most visitors than its former base at Earl's Court, it must be said – but that did not discourage the sizeable crowds of attendees who poured into Infosec 2015 at Olympia. They clearly knew what solutions they were after or had come to hear the experts speak on the issues and technologies that are now altering the shape of security globally. While the visitors seemed to thrive on what the show had to offer, how well did those exhibiting there fare? Computing Security caught up with them, post-show, to find out:

MEET AND GREET
"InfoSec 2015 was a great event for us," says Cristina Pop, director of sales and business development, CoSoSys. "Our goal was to meet many existing and new customers and partners, get feedback, network and see what the new trends in the market are. We had the opportunity to meet and interact with great people, and it was nice that the participants were a mix of both highly technical people and also business oriented.

"We were pleasantly surprised when some unlikely attendees recognised our brand and solutions. This is yet another confirmation that our hard work and dedication to providing quality products is being well received.

"When it comes to our latest release and upcoming features, we also managed to pique some interest. Again, it's another indication that we are on the right path, and constantly listen to our customers' and the markets' needs. The announcement we made regarding integration with Box and Dropbox for Business API helped raise awareness among companies of all sizes about data loss threats represented by the cloud."

BETTER PREPARED
"The show had good attendance this year with a nice mix of established and new entrants," confirms Owen Cole, VP, EMEA for ExtraHop. "We ran a couple of speaker sessions on how organisations can use insights gained through Wire Data to develop better security processes and spot the new types of APT attacks, especially concerning the enhanced elegance and patience of emerging attacks, such as Spear Phishing working around many of the established security practices. Some of the vendor pitches and a few of the questions raised during our sessions indicate that insider threat is a big issue, which is finally being recognised. Organisations are finally waking up to the notion that draconian security polices simply don't work. The idea that understating security insights based on context seems to be filtering through and 'real-time' analysis is definitely a hot topic.

"Payback for InfoSec is hard to judge. Yet a number of interesting conversations suggest that organisations are receptive to looking at new ways to solve old security challenges. All in all, a positive show."

FULL-ON DEMOS
"At our stand, we presented on 'Data Privacy and the Cloud – Can they Coexist?' and gave around-the-clock demos," reports Carol Feigenbaum, marketing director, CipherCloud. "We were also invited to speak at three stand-alone sessions in the Cyber Innovations Showcase, where we addressed global data protection laws, as highlighted in the joint whitepaper with DLA Piper that CipherCloud launched at InfoSecurity, and on unified management for cloud security. Additionally, CEO Pravin Kothari's take on cloud as the killer app for security innovation was noted in Sunday Telegraph (print) and Business Reporter in a pre-show round-up.

"Interest in CipherCloud's insight into these topics, as well as the growing fervour for solutions to secure the cloud, helped drive strong booth traffic. We exceeded our targeted metrics in both volume and quality of visitors. For the third year in a row, Infosecurity gave us some great meetings with business unit decision-makers and VPs/CISOs."

MOBILITY AND CLOUD
"After attending InfoSec for the last 15 years, it was great to see the show still looking busy with good quality attendees," states Paul Donovan, EMEA sales director at Pulse Secure. "We had a good cross-section of existing customers visit our booth, including senior executives from several large clients within financial services."

"We ran two well-attended theatre sessions and it is apparent from the types of questions we fielded that mobility and cloud are two huge areas of interest. These are highly disruptive technologies and business trends that are clearly on the minds of many IT security professionals. You get a sense they feel, as more devices enter the enterprise, the problem is only going to escalate, and they are looking for concrete solutions and strategies to implement now, to get in front of the issue."

"It's clear that defining and enacting sensible security policies is a key driver when it comes to mobility and cloud," Donovan adds.

END-TO-END AUTOMATION
Digital Guardian showcased the latest version of its endpoint security platform, which provides data aware security designed to stop data theft. The platform performs across traditional endpoints, mobile devices and cloud applications, making it easier to see and stop threats to sensitive data. The company also made three major news announcements:

• The launch of the new Digital Guardian App for Splunk Enterprise, which lets customers understand risks to sensitive data across the enterprise from insider and outsider threats and respond appropriately
• A new European partnership with global digital leader Atos to launch a new cloud-based Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solution
• The appointment of Luke Brown as the new vice president & general manager of Digital Guardian in EMEA & India.

Digital Guardian CTO Salo Fajer also hosted a popular conference session focusing on the importance of taking a data-aware approach in the modern business environment, drawing a large crowd of data security experts from across the industry.
